Are you selling the shares and/or assets of a business in Canada? The purchaser may require you to provide an Affidavit of Residency pursuant to section 116 of the Income Tax Act (Canada). The Affidavit is made by either the vendor (if an individual) or a corporate officer (if the shares being transferred are owned by a company), and attests that the vendor is not a non-resident, as that term is defined in the Act.
